"But Lot’s wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt."
From the Expositor’s Bible Commentary (Abridged Edition: Old Testament):
Lot’s wife and Abraham both “looked” at the destruction of the cities, but with very differing consequences. Lot’s wife became a “pillar of salt” because she “looked back,” thus disobeying the words of the rescuers (v.17). Abraham, on the other hand, looked from a vantage point consistent with the men’s words in verse 17. They said, “Don’t stop anywhere in the plain,” and so Abraham “returned to the place where he had stood before the LORD. He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain” (vv.27–28). Unaware of the warning to Lot and his family, Abraham obeyed and escaped the destruction.
Let us remember Lot's wife as a reminder of disobedience, and a recollection of the grace bestowed to us under the New Covenant.
Theologica is a Latin form of the word we know as "theology", or the study and knowledge of God. You may have heard of the Summa Theologica, or the "Summary of Theology", by Thomas Aquinas, known as one of the greatest philosophers and Christians of all time. But the brand is no homage to Aquinas– rather the idea of Theologica, or Theology, is all centered on Jesus, the Son of God. The brand is built on this premise: theology matters. We love God by knowing God. Would you join us in glorifying God in the public square, so that others may be inspired to ask us about our great God, and that we may glorify Him in word and deed.
